Gene Stewart, 87, of Arlington, Va., formerly of Altoona, passed away Monday, Oct. 28, 2019, at his home.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Bessie Mae Stewart. He married Silvia Troncoso and she preceded him in death on Aug. 7, 2015.
Surviving are a brother, Gary (Diane) Stewart of Williamsburg, Va.; and many nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by three sisters: Geraldine Albrecht, of Winter Park Fla., Gloria Bauhof of East Brunswick, N.J., and M. Lorraine Sidney; and two brothers: Daniel and David Stewart.
Gene was a 1951 graduate of Altoona High School and later retired as a Highway Design Engineer from Arlington County. He proudly served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, and was stationed in Korea and Japan.
He was a former member of the Fourth Street Church of God, Altoona.
He enjoyed ancestry, genealogy and bicycling. He was an avid Pittsburgh Steelers, Pirates, and Penguins fan.
Friends will be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at the Axe and Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St,, Altoona, Pastor John Collins officiating. Interment will be at Royer Cemetery, Williamsburg. Arrangements are by Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520 Fourth St., Altoona.
