Maxine E. Walters, 72, Altoona, passed away Saturday at home after an extended illness.

She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Ambrose “Sonny” and Helen (Dosh) Sharpless. On April 27, 1962, she married Robert D. Walters.

Surviving are her loving husband of 55 years; two daughters: Robin (Matt) Daus and Tracy Holmberg; a sister, Cynthia (Terry) Gailey; a brother, Joe (Mona) Sharpless; seven grandchildren: Stevie (Chris) Daus, Matthew “Spuddy” (Janell) Daus, Matt (Jennifer) Holmberg, Eric Holmberg, Danielle Holmberg, Katie (Jon) Mentzer and Abigail (Katie) Walters; and five great-grandchildren: Jacob and Trenton Holmberg, Darin Lynam and Claire and Elliot Mentzer.

She was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey.

Maxine was a 1964 graduate of Altoona High School. She retired from the Altoona School District with 23 years of service and was a member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church.

She enjoyed dancing, crossword puzzles and family time together.

A private service will be held at the convenience of the family.
