Betty A. McDowell, 95, Altoona, passed away Sunday at home, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born in Bellefonte, PA, daughter of the late Charles E. and Edith (Corman) Pennington. She later married Charles R. McDowell Sr. and he preceded her in death in 2019.
She is survived by two daughters: Marsha (Gary) Johnson and Tracy Novack; 5 grandchildren: Jason (Sasha) Potter, James (Lindsey) Novack, Tyler (Daniel Adams) Novack, Matt (Christina) Johnson and Lori (Joe) Stuby; 8 great-grandchildren: Olivia, Ellie, Ryan, Bridget, Joshua, Sophia, Chase and Jack; son-in-law, William Marlowe; and many nieces and nephews.
Betty was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Marlowe; two sons: Charles McDowell Jr. and Terry McDowell; great-granddaughter, Leah Johnson; sister, Helen Fleming; and brother, Donald Pennington.
Betty was a 1947 Altoona High graduate and raised her family as a homemaker.
She was a member of the Junior Auxiliary at Mercy Hospital. She enjoyed bowling, cooking, baking and having coffee with friends. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
Betty was a member of Christ Community United Methodist Church, formerly the 58th St. United Methodist Church.
Friends will be received from 6-8pm Thursday, April 25, 2024 in the Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520-4th St. Altoona PA 16601. A funeral service will be held following the visitation at 8pm. Interment will be at Greenwood Cemetery.
