H. Ruth (Witherow) Heverly

 H. Ruth Heverly, 101, of Altoona, passed away Friday at the Lutheran Home at Hollidaysburg. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Christopher C. and Elsie Austin Witherow. She was first married to John D. Linn, who preceded her in death in 1966, and secondly to Samuel C. Heverly who also preceded her in death in 2001. 

She is survived by: a son, Philip (Donna) Linn; seven grandchildren: Eric (Candace) Linn, Justine Plummer, Julie (Scott) Russell, Jana (Terry) Mock, Johnathan Taylor, Shawn (Sondra) Pickell, and Shannon (Rich) Vinglas; 10 great-grandchildren: Kayla, Nickolas, Joshua, Brandon, Tessa, Thayne, Alexa, Landon, Gage, and Paige; and 4 great-great grandchildren. 

Ruth was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Linn; a brother, Paul Witherow; and two daughters-in law: Nancy and Margie Kaye. 

Ruth was a 1941 graduate of Altoona High School and worked in the back page advertising department at the Altoona Mirror. 

She enjoyed sewing, ceramics, cooking, baking, reading, and the beach. She also enjoyed her Bible Study group, “Joy Seekers” at church. 

Ruth was a member of the First Church of Christ in Altoona. 

Friends will be received from 11 a.m. until the noon funeral service on Tuesday, Oct. 25, 2022, at the Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520-4th St. Altoona PA 16601, with Pastor Ralph Hammer officiating.
