Harold R. Eaton Sr.

Harold Richard Eaton, Sr., 92, Altoona, died Sunday, March 14, 2021 at UPMC Altoona. Harold was born August 11, 1928, in Blair's Mills, Huntingdon County, the eldest son of Alexander Woods and Carrie Grace (Worthington) Eaton. He was the eldest of four brothers, Thomas Foster, Warren Franklin, Herbert Gamble, and one sister, Ruth Catherine, all preceding him in death.

Harold enlisted in the Army in 1946 and was shipped off to post-war Japan to serve in the Occupational Forces. He was stationed on an air base, and when the U.S. Air Force was formed, he then served under that branch of service until his honorable discharge in 1949.

After the military, Harold came to the Altoona area for employment,where he met and married his wife of 61 years, Mary Ruth Pine, daughter of John Thomas Pine and wife Mary Lavina (Benton), on August 16, 1951. She preceded him in death in 2012.

Harold and Mary Ruth had two children, H. Richard Eaton, Jr. (Janet), who survives, and Jack Thomas Eaton, who preceded him in death in 1998.

Harold worked for many years in the Altoona area as an Appliance Repair Technician at H&H Appliance Store. He also taught appliance repair in night classes for the Altoona Area School District. He retired in 1990.

Harold loved his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ and served as an active member of the Independent Bible Church in Altoona until its dissolution, as a youth group advisor, Sunday School teacher, board member, handyman and Chairman of the Board. He, most recently, attended the Riggles Gap Bible Church in Antis Township.

At the request of the deceased, no services will be held. Arrangements are by Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520-4th St. Altoona.
