Jacob N. Vasile

Jacob N. Vasile, 86, Altoona, passed away Wednesday at his home. He was born in Altoona, son of the late David and Ruth (Dunn) Vasile-Hoenstine and step-father, Alvin Hoenstine. On September 6, 1994, he married Betty Garman in Winchester, Virginia.

He is survived by his loving wife; a son, Robert Scott Vasile; a daughter, Melissa Vasile; granddaughter, Shelby (Alex) Beaucage; great-granddaughter, Paisley Grace; and sister in law and brother in law, Jesse and Linda Williams.

Jacob was preceded in death by a daughter, Marcia Vasile; brother, David J. Vasile; and daughter in law, Vicki J. Vasile.

After trying many types of jobs, Jacob finally settled on being a police officer. He attended the PA State Police Academy and served as Chief of Police in Coalport then Osceola Mills until his

retirement in 1998.

As a teenager, Jacob show jumped horses and later was an accomplished teen track and field competitor. He collected many trophies in shooting sports, dog training, archery and fast pitch softball as a pitcher. He shared his knowledge by training young athletic girls in the art of fast pitch softball.

Jacob was also an avid hunter, fisherman, camper and boater. He spent many hours sharing these with friends and family.

Friends will be received from 1pm to 4pm on Tuesday, July 14, 2026 in the Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520-4th St. Altoona PA 16601, where a funeral service will take place at 4pm.
