John Alfred Bridges Sr., 74, Orlando, Fla., formerly of Grazierville, Tyrone, returned to his heavenly home on Jan. 21, 2017. His devotion to his family and his firm belief in God supported him and ultimately gave him peace.

He was born in Altoona, son of the late John and Treva (Hampton) Bridges.

Surviving are his lovely wife of 52 years, Betty Jane Bridges; two sons: John Alfred Bridges Jr. (Maritza Padilla) and Timothy Allen Bridges Sr. (Amanda Lewis Brown); three grandchildren: Cherokee, Elizabeth and Timothy Jr.; a sister, Maxine Settle; a brother, Richard Bridges; an adopted daughter, Bonnie Sue Noll-Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Justine Ellen Bridges; and a brother, James Bridges.

John was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. He was an active member and missionary of Faith Assembly and First Baptist Church of Pine Castle. His positive and witty presence will always be felt by his family and friends.

Friends will be received from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, Feb. 3, 2017, at Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520 Fourth St., Altoona, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service, Saturday, Feb. 4, 2017, at Axe & Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St., Altoona, Pastor George Sanders officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
