Joyce E. (Rexford) Kipp

Joyce E. Kipp, 94, Altoona, passed away Friday at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Harry and Wava (Shugarts) Rexford. She later married David L. Kipp and he preceded her in death in 1992.

She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Kipp; a son, Harry Kipp; two grandchildren: Tyler and Ryan; and a sister-in-law, Tillie Rexford.

Joyce was preceded in death by three sons, David Jr., George and Samuel; two sisters: Barbara Adams and Dorothy Buckles; and a brother, George Rexford.

Joyce was an Altoona High School graduate and a 1951 graduate from Penn State University with a B.A. and Master’s degree in theater.

She taught in the Altoona School District for several years and then at the Penn State Altoona Campus in the Theater Department until retirement.

Joyce was a member of Altoona Community Theater, a tutor for the Blair County Literacy Council and she was active with the Allegheny Highlands Community Theater. She also acted and directed for ACT and Cresson Lake. Over many years, she cared for and loved her pets.

She was a member of Wehnwood United Methodist Church.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, February 16, 2023 at Wehnwood United Methodist Church, 2511 Juniata Gap Rd. Altoona. Interment will be at Blair Memorial Park. Arrangements are by Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home.
