King 'Raymond' Hampton

July 13, 1928 ~ February 12, 2018 (age 89)

King Raymond Hampton (aka Raymond, Raymie, Ray) left this earthly life for his new life with
Jesus Christ his Lord and Savior during the evening hours of February 12, 2018. He was 89
years old.

Born in Bellefonte, Pennsylvania, on July 13, 1928, Raymond was an avid lover of all things in
nature, from the tiniest insects to the largest mammals, always marveling at the Lord’s
magnificent handiwork! He supported wildlife through many organizations, and was an avid
hunter and fisherman throughout his life, writing in vivid detail the events of fall deer season,
bear hunts, and turkey hunts both in his home state of Pennsylvania and his adopted state of
Indiana. His love of nature lives on in his children and their children. He created many
wonderful paintings, sketches and chalk drawings that captured his love of the wildlife, streams
and mountains of Pennsylvania where he grew up alongside his two brothers.

Raymond was a salesman of many things in his lifetime, concentrating on a successful real
estate career in the years prior to retirement. He was solely responsible for the creation and
development of “Sylvan Woods” in Noblesville, Indiana, successfully bringing to life his vision of
a “naturally” beautiful upscale housing development, on land where woods, fields, and creeks
already existed. The utilities were placed underground, and trees were removed only if
absolutely necessary. Every effort was made to leave the land as undisturbed as possible.

During his lifetime Raymond was a husband and father, as well as a member of Gideons
International and their Prison Fellowship, past President and longtime member of Indiana State
Beekeepers Assoc., past member of Castleview Baptist Church and tenor in the choir, a little
league coach and umpire, a gardener, and a self taught pianist/composer. He loved to share
how God prompted him (after hearing a speaker at church) to go to Haiti and help build a
church. He made two such trips and supported that ministry financially from that point forward.

Raymond was preceded in death by his loving wife Anne (Hall) Hampton, his mother, Zelma
Inez (Clemens) Hampton, his father Walter Raymond Hampton, and his brothers Neal
Hampton and Robert Hampton. He is survived by sons John (Sharon) Hampton, Kevin
(Melinda) Hampton, Douglas Hampton, Keith Hampton, and daughter and caretaker Sheryl
(Hampton) Ross, 10 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are being
handled by Leslie Axe Funeral Home, Altoona, Pennsylvania and are scheduled for 10:00 AM,
Saturday, February 24, 2018.

Asked what spiritual legacy or advice he would like to leave for others, Raymond wrote: “Live
life one day at a time by faith! Like Paul, fight the good fight and run the good race, all the way
to the end --- for the beginning!”
