Ralph E. “Bud” Campbell, 71, Altoona, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Ralph C. and Edith (Hameley) Campbell. On Nov. 26, 1966, he married Janice Summerville.
Surviving are his loving wife of 50 years; a son, Brent Campbell of Altoona; and two sisters: Gean Gibboney of Duncansville and Janet Drass in Tennessee.
He was preceded in death by a daughter, Susan Campbell; and a brother, Bob Campbell.
Bud was a 1965 graduate of Gallitzin High School, and he served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. He retired as assistant chief for the Altoona Fire Department after more than 25 years of service, and he recently retired from Blair Senior Services.
He was a member of Juniata Lodge, F&AM, Hollidaysburg; Jaffa Shrine Lil’ Vettes; and Jaffa Roadrunners. He was also a member and senior vice-commander of American Legion Memorial Post 174, Gallitzin.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, 2017, at Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520 Fourth St., Altoona, where a Masonic funeral service will be held at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 18, 2017, at Axe and Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St., Altoona, Chaplin Tony Conrad officiating. Committal with military honors will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
