Richard C. Hoffman

Richard C. Hoffman, 90, Altoona, passed away peacefully Saturday at his home. 

He was born in Altoona, son of the late Nason and Mary (Treese) Hoffman. On Jan. 17, 1954, he married Velda Mae Nestlerode in Tyrone and she preceded him in death on April 25, 2012.

Surviving are two sons: John (Teresa) Hoffman of Fort Pierce, Fla., and Doug (Tracy) Hoffman of Altoona; three grandchildren: Chelsea, Cody and Charley Hoffman; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a son, Richard E.; three brothers: his twin, Robert, Jack and Ray Hoffman; and a sister, Kate Hoffman.

Richard was an Altoona High School graduate and retired from the United States Postal Service as a rural mail carrier in 1990. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of Juniata Church of the Brethren, and Richard was also a member of Mountain Lodge 281, the Jaffa Shrine and Roadrunners and sang in the Allegheny Chorale in Tyrone. For many years he tolerated, but enjoyed, his wife's love of the Great Grange Fair.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 29, 2019, at Leslie E. Axe Funeral Home, 1520 Fourth St., Altoona, where a Masonic service will be held. Friends will also be received from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Saturday, Nov. 30, 2019, at Axe and Santella Family Chapel, 1534 Fourth St., Altoona. Committal will be at Blair Memorial Park with full military honors.
